TO: Parents and
Teachers of Williams Music Students,
To better serve Williams families,
especially those whose children can not
attend one of WS Music camps, I am
preparing a booklet of methods for teaching
music to Williams children and adults. The
booklet should help parents find a music
teacher for their Williams child and
provide those teachers who are new to
Williams students with methods that have
worked well.
Thus, I am requesting that if you and/or
your child’s music teacher has had success
in teaching music to Williams students,
please respond to me describing those
methods in detail. We will appreciate your
asking the teacher to do the same.
I will incorporate these approaches that
you and your children’s teachers have found
useful, plus many of the ones that work
successfully with Gloria, edit and
consolidate them, give proper credit to the
contributors, and try to prepare a
practical and useful guide. The guide will
appear both on the web page of the Williams
Syndrome Foundation (www.wsf.org) and in
booklet form.
Please send your comments regarding the
whole range of: selecting a teacher, a
particular teaching method, such as Suzuki
or Kodaly, and methods that work in regard
to teaching how to play an instrument,
voice, choir, musical theater and various
types of ensembles.
There are no length restrictions as to the
number of pages you send. Please include
references, if they will help, sources of
musical supplies (company and address) and
illustrations and/or photographs. It also
may be the possible to use clips of some
videos and of audio cassettes.
If feasible to you, I would prefer
receiving an email copy of your methods.
Please send them to
williamssyndrome@insightbb.com.
You can also mail them to:
