The WSF tries to bring you the most current, accurate and interesting news about Williams syndrome.

Other activities of the WSF include:

Support for Research: For example, we provided Dr. Colleen Morris with bridge funding allowing her to complete her research demonstrating that Williams syndrome was caused by a microdeletion of some genes from the number seven chromosome, a discovery which led to the FISH test for WS, and opened up the field to research geneticists.

Startup of the Music camp: The idea for the WS camp at Belvoir was born at a meeting planned by the WSF. A WSF board member found Belvoir Terrace to run the camp, and was a co-sponsor of the camp.

Startup of Music Academy: The concept of starting a year round music academy for people with WS as well as for other cognitively impaired aspiring musicians was initiated by the WSF. Because our charter allows us to develop the concept of such a school, but does not allow us to run academies, an affiliate foundation was spawned by the WSF. That affiliate, the Berkshire Hills Music Academy (BHMA), is now preparing to accept students for its first class to start in the fall of 2001.

Music Scholarships: The WSF has raised $40,000 thus far to provide scholarships for the Berkshire Hills Music Academy, and has provided scholarships for the Music camp.

The WSF to date has not sent out mass mail solicitations and has no plans to send out email solicitations.

Your support is necessary for us to continue: (a) supplying families with information, (b) bringing innovative programs to WS families and (c) providing incentive research support for scientists with innovative and important research projects.
