Kyle was born on 4/8/79.
His pediatrician sent us to Atlanta, Ga to a geneticist, who diagnosed him with WS. He saw a cardiologist while there also. He has yearly physicals with his regular doctor and sees a cardiologist, too. They say he has supravalvular aortic stenosis and his heart condition is mild. They said his heart condition hasn't changed enough that he would need surgery. He doesn't have to take medicine. We took him to a speech center when he was in preschool. He was in special ed classes until Jr. High. In Jr. High and High School, he was mainstreamed and graduated with a diploma with his senior class. After graduation, Kyle was at a rehab center doing on the job training for a year. He trained at a garden center and eventually a grocery store where he was hired later on. They soon had to go out of business and Kyle's guidance counselor found him a job at a Kroger grocery. He works part time, 3-4 days a week; bagging items, helping customers with their groceries and putting carts away. He doesn't drive so my husband and I take him to work and anywhere he wants to go. He has a loyal friend who he went to school with who he can do things with also. He enjoys the visiting the mall, library, local retail store. He can't handle money but is able to carry a wallet and buy a drink or snack if he's somewhere. We attend church and he really enjoys the singing and music there and being with the youth and college groups. He certainly has the cocktail party manner -- many friends, manners, talks to anyone, even though he's been reminded of not talking to strangers. He's always been treated nice by his friends and they adore him. Email me with comments or questions if you want. Nikki and Dennis Chambers |
