This is our son Joey. He is 6.5 years old
now.
We
just got a diagnostics on him on 3-24-2005. He is a very loving,
happy, energetic, very friendly, very outgoing, sociable, and a very
loving, polite child. He talks to everyone he meets.
We had no idea what Williams was, so we came home and researched it on the web. When we read about Williams Syndrome, it was as if someone had followed us around for a while and did an autobiography on our son. It is very nice to finally know what makes him so special.
Joey has 2 older brothers, Chris,19 and Drew,11 and an older sister, Kenndra, 8.5. He is the youngest of four happy children.
He has had 2 surgeries for strabismus -- one at 11 months and one again at 5 years and P. E. tubes when he was just 9 months old. We were surprised by the diagnostics, but finally we had a name for what he had instead of being an enigma and being told good luck. The Fish test confirmed it. He has had a heart murmur since birth, which was very confusing that he has all the Williams syndrome signs and no one caught it until now.
He is very interested in vacuums, power tools, drills, cars (and we mean real cars), being a sure hero firefighter, people, screw drivers, pencil sharpeners, swimming, fishing, dancing and cooking. He loves music, so his Grandma and Grandpa bought him a keyboard to help him express himself better. He loves music of all types. We still have moments where we are surprised at this and a bit overwhelmed, but for the most part, we have accepted this fact. We are grateful he is alright and he does not have something more serious. We think of all the things he could have had instead of this and we feel fortunate. He is happy. He is loved so much and it is not fatal. Thank God.
