Lane, 9 months, was diagnosed with WS one month ago. Our family
practitioner detected a slight heart murmur, and referred her to a
cardiologist who mentioned Williams Syndrome.
We had the FISH Test done, and the results came back with a positive
diagnosis. We have had all the physical base tests completed and so
far, Lane is physically okay except for the heart murmur, which was
aortic ventricular stenosis. She will not need surgery. She is at a
normal height and weight gain for her age.
Developmentally, she seems to be a little slow; she is sitting up,
starting to do the movements for crawling, but we're waiting for
that full-belly laugh.
She loves to eat, and eats everything (from meatloaf to pizza). She
is still breastfeeding but sleeps through the night (7 to 5).
Like other WS kids, she is so happy and "smiley." Once she started
smiling (at 4 months), she hasn't stopped since.
The diagnosis is still new to us, and we are going through the
different emotional feelings of grieving to feeling completely
overwhelmed by this new direction our lives have taken, but on
living day-to-day, Lane is our baby, our pride and joy, and we enjoy
watching her interact with the new things and people she encounters
in her life.
