Free Mental Health Support for Rodeo Athletes and FamilieS—Anytime, Anywhere

Life on the road isn’t easy. The pressure to perform, the uncertainty of injury, the long stretches away from home—it’s a lot to carry. That’s why Western Sports Foundation is proud to offer a brand-new mental health resource to rodeo athletes and their families through a partnership with BetterHelp—and it’s completely free to those we serve.

We’ve always been here to help athletes get back on their feet after an injury. But we also recognize that not all injuries are visible. Stress, anxiety, loneliness, and emotional strain can take just as much of a toll as a physical hit—and they’re often the hardest to talk about.

This new resource is a game changer because it meets athletes exactly where they are, in the way that works best for them.

 Why This Matters

Mental wellness isn’t just about crisis care. It’s about having tools to navigate the stress of the everyday, whether it’s managing anxiety, staying focused, or simply feeling more grounded in a demanding lifestyle. And in a culture where ‘toughing it out’ is often the norm, WSF wants to change the conversation.

This new program gives the rodeo community the support they need, in a format that truly works for them.

Three Ways to Access Support

1. Self-Guided Resources — Available 24/7
Through WSF’s partnership with BetterHelp, athletes can access a wide range of tools and exercises designed to help them cope with common challenges: stress, sleep issues, relationships, burnout, and more. All of it is available anytime, on any device.

2. Personalized One-on-One Therapy
BetterHelp offers access to licensed therapists, and individuals can choose someone who fits their personal preferences, whether that’s based on gender, faith background, age, communication style, or personal values. Sessions can take place by video, phone, or text—wherever they are, whenever they need it.

3. Group Sessions With Shared Perspective
For those seeking connection, group support is available too. Participants can join topic-based sessions alongside others who may be facing similar life experiences.

Confidential and Free Through WSF

Once approved through WSF, athletes can receive services that are fully confidential. WSF does not have access to usage data or session information. What’s more, there is no cost to the athlete or their families, thanks to generous donors and partners who believe in standing behind those who make this sport what it is.

Support That Extends to Families

Rodeo life doesn’t just affect those in the arena. It impacts the family members at home who worry, support, and sacrifice just as much. This resource is available to them too, because when families are supported, athletes are stronger.

That’s the power of this partnership: athletes get to start where they are and shape the program to fit what they need. No pressure. No labels. Just real support, on their terms.

A Trusted Step Forward for the Rodeo World

WSF takes our role as a trusted partner to the Western sports community seriously. This new program is more than a benefit; it’s a lifeline. Whether someone is navigating a major life moment or just needs someone to talk to, we want them to know they’re not alone.

The idea that you have to wait until things fall apart to seek support is outdated. Sometimes, it’s just about having someone outside your circle who can help you process what’s weighing on your mind. Mental and emotional stress can quietly impact your physical health, focus, and overall well-being, even if you’re trying to “tough it out.”

Western Sports Foundation is proud to be part of that shift by providing tools, connection, and care to those who carry the weight of this sport.
